World Environment Day History

World Environment Day seeks to raise awareness about environmental issues. This day aims to encourage both people and nations to act. It hopes to curb climate change, minimize pollution, and create sustainable laws and goals to ensure the Earth’s health. This day further aims to reduce human consumption in order to reduce the overall impact on the global environment.

World Environment Day was established in 1972 by the UN General Assembly. It is observed annually on June 5th. Additionally, a theme is chosen and a host country is selected.

Every World Environment Day is hosted by a different country in which official celebrations take place. This year's host is Pakistan.
